The Lutheran Community Hospital Association is now the sole sponsor of Norfolk's Faith Regional Health Services. At a Tuesday news conference, LCHA President John Dinkel of Norfolk announced that the financing to divest the Missionary Benedictine Sisters 50 percent sponsorship in the hospital was completed last week. Meanwhile, MBS Prioress Sister Kevin Hermsen said with decreasing and aging membership, the time has come for them to divest themselves from health care and focus their efforts elsewhere. She says they will invest the 25 million dollars from the hospital divestiture into their Immaculata Monastery and Spirituality Center on North 18th Street which is currently under renovation. She says the balance of funds will be used in their outreach ministries to the elderly of all faiths and advocacy for the poor and immigrants. Tuesday's announcement ends the partnership between the Lutheran Community Hospital Association and the Missionary Benedictine Sisters that began in 1996.
