Mayor Mike Fahey has announced that the College World Series will be played in Omaha at least through 2035. A 25-year contract with the NCAA starts when the current deal expires after the 2010 C.W.S. Fahey announced last week that the city and NCAA had agreed to at least a 20-year contract. A long-term contract has been in the works for months, with much of the discussion centered on the construction of a new downtown ballpark to replace Rosenblatt Stadium, home of the event since 1950. Plans call for the 2011 College World Series to be played in the new stadium.

Norfolk High standout Nate Olson has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Hastings College. News Briefs:

Strong thunderstorms passed through Nebraska on Tuesday. Several locations report hail -- including an area 12 miles northeast of Rose in Rock County. The Fire Chief reported golf ball to tennis ball size hail covering the ground. He said hail drifted next to his house to a depth of eight-to-ten inches. In northeast Nebraska, WJAG rainfall reporter "Vet" Stuhr in Petersburg said 1.30 rain fell there, while Russell Milliken in Oakdale reported .90 of an inch of rain and 70 miles per hour wind gusts. Many areas -- including Norfolk -- picked up about a half inch of rain.

Advocacy groups are calling Attorney General Jon Bruning's record on discrimination a shameful debacle. The criticism was lodged yesterday by groups including the Fair Housing Center of Nebraska, the Anti Defamation League and the Nebraska Appleseed Center. Bruning and the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission have been at loggerheads for weeks.

Tuesday was the first day of operation for a new business in Norfolk. Roll-Tite -- with operations in the U.S. and Canada -- sells a retractable tarp system primarily used on flat bed and drop deck trailers that can be operated by one person in about a two minute time period -- a process that could take one-to-two hours in some cases when the tarp is placed on the trailer by hand. Roll-Tite CEO Graeme Lowry tells WJAG NEWS they decided to open a service center in Norfolk because of contracts with companies such as Norfolk Iron and Metal, Nucor, Vulcraft and others. He says they presently have five employees in Norfolk and hope to expand that number to 20-to-25 in about a year. Roll-Tite is located at 1212 South Pine Industrial Road.

Today is the last day for voters to request a ballot by mail. Madison County Clerk Nancy Scheer says her office will accept faxed, signed requests for ballots today only to make sure there is enough time for the ballot to reach the voter before election day. All absentee ballots must be received in the clerk's office before the polls close on Tuesday. Voters can vote in person at the clerk's office during regular business hours between now and election day. On election day, polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Voters in one Norfolk precinct and an area of rural Newman Grove will be voting in different polling places on Tuesday. Madison County Clerk Nancy Scheer says voters in Norfolk 1-3 will vote at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 1010 Georgia Avenue instead of the former First Christian Church. And Scheer tells WJAG NEWS that voters in Schoolcraft and Emerick precincts will vote at the Newman Grove City Hall with voters from Shell Creek and Newman Grove City. The change in the Newman Grove area is because of a dwindling number of voters in the rural area. Scheer says anyone with questions about their polling place should call her office -- 454-3311 extension 7.
