They played and played and played. And finally, Brenden Morrow proved to be the marathon man on ice. Morrow scored at 9:03 of the fourth overtime to end the longest game in the NHL playoffs this season. Morrow's goal gave the Dallas Stars a 2-1 win over San Jose that eliminated the Sharks in five games. That sends the Stars into the Western Conference finals against Detroit starting Thursday night. It was the eighth-longest playoff game in NHL history. With 69 minutes and three seconds of overtime, it meant the players were on the ice for more than two regulation games. Morrow scored the game-winner by deflecting a pass by Stephane Robidas past Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov, who made 17 saves in the first O.T. To keep the Sharks alive for awhile in the longest game in their history. For the first time, the NHL Eastern Conference finals will be an all-Pennsylvania affair. The Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated the New York Rangers in five games with a 3-2 overtime win yesterday and will play the Philadelphia Flyers. They eliminated Montreal Saturday night in five games.

Kevin Garnett had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Paul Pierce scored 22 points in Boston's 99-65 romp over Atlanta in the decisive seventh game of their NBA playoff series. The administrator for the Nebraska Department of Weights and Measures says his agency has found three to four gas stations a week trying to cheat customers. Steve Malone said that's an unusually high number. The department is conducting statewide checks to see if customers are getting what they paid for at the pump. Malone said the most common trick is for a station to have alcohol in fuel that is advertised as having no alcohol. He said violating stations are charging 5 to 10 cents a gallon more for that gas when it is basically the same as the less-expensive ethanol. Violating stations have their pumps shut down until they correct the problem. The state attorney general's office also has been notified.

The president of Northeast Community College says Norfolk could see more than a University of Nebraska Medical Center Nursing College on its campus. Bill Path told the Norfolk City Council recently the College of Nursing could just be the start of UNMC facilities in the community. He says the school's chancellor has a vision that Norfolk become the northern division of UNMC if this first step -- the Nursing College -- can happen. $6.5-million of a $13-million capital campaign to raise funds for the Nursing College have been pledged to date from local and area entities. The City of Norfolk has pledged one million dollars over a five year period to the project. The Council will formally vote on the pledge this evening.

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett says he believes the U.S. economy is in a recession by his definition. Buffett says the economy still hasn't met the official recession criteria of two quarters of negative growth. But Buffett's definition of a recession is when most people and businesses are not doing as well as they were three, six or nine months ago. By that measure, Buffett says the economy is clearly in a recession. Buffett made those comments at a news conference he and Berkshire vice chairman Charlie Munger held Sunday. Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting was held over the weekend.
