A celebration of wind power was held Tuesday in Bloomfield -- the proposed site of the state's largest wind farm. Ground was broken on the $140-million, 80 megawatt Elkhorn Ridge Wind Facility near Bloomfield. Nebraska Public Power District has a 20-year agreement to purchase electricity from Elkhorn Ridge LLC. The 27 wind turbines are expected to create enough energy to power 25,000 Nebraska homes.

A criminal background check of Democratic congressional candidate Max Yashirin shows a citation for drunken driving in 2002, as well as jail time for driving without a license. The offenses were reported Tuesday by the Lincoln Journal Star, which does routine background checks on political candidates. Yashirin is running unopposed for the 1st District seat in the May 13th primary. He'll face Republican incumbent Jeff Fortenberry in November.

The Norfolk City Council took no action this week on allowing for the pouring of a large area of concrete that will create a level surface for trucks during organized events in Skyview Lake Park. Those who run the Christian Cross Festival and Boom Fest say the pad would create a solid surface for flat beds that would serve as a stage. Christian Cross spokesman Brett Simonsen told the Council's Finance Committee, they now need an area that's 50-by-70 feet compared to their previous request of 40-by-50 in order for an easier access by the trucks. The City Council's Cultural and Recreation, and Public Works Committees will work with the group's representatives to iron out a plan.

A woman who earned her CPR certification only two months ago is being credited with helping save a 7-year-old Alliance boy from drowning. Authorities say Andrew Mooc was at a swimming party this week at an Alliance motel when he was pulled from the pool by the woman, who gave him CPR when she realized he wasn't breathing. The boy is expected to recover.

A pile of dung is expected to fetch up to $450 at auction today in New York. That's because it's from a dinosaur that lived some 130 million years ago. Other items going on the block include a tusk from a woolly mammoth, and a meteorite that weighs almost a ton.
