Today marks the last day on the job for Mike Nolan as Norfolk City Administrator. After 28-years of service to the community, he's stepping down to accept a job with the League Association of Risk Management. On Sunday, Nolan was honored at a reception held in his honor at the Norfolk Arts Center. A number of people sang of his praises while Nolan literally sang. After thanking citizens and others, Nolan, an Irishman at heart, sang two Irish parting ballads at the end of his talk. He begins his new job on Thursday.
In order to help voters make informed decisions, WJAG Radio will be holding a Norfolk city candidate's forum this evening. Those taking part will be mayoral candidates Sue Fuchtman, Tom Schommer and Larry Sweigard -- and Ward Three City Council candidates Jim Brenneman, Dave Hedrick, Chad Korth and Vaughn Wiebusch. The forum will be held in the Norfolk City Council Chambers. It will be carried live on NewsTalk 780 WJAG and Cable One Public Access Channel 14.
Authorities say a 47-year-old Valley man has been arrested for purposely hitting four kids with his car, then driving away. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department says Mark Donnermeyer has been arrested and is suspected of four counts of felony assault. He allegedly hit the kids Saturday morning, sending them to the hospital with minor injuries. Two of the kids were 13 years old, one was eight and the age of the fourth child was not known.
On average, Nebraskans are getting more money back from the state through income tax refunds so far this year. The state Department of Revenue reports that the average income tax refund so far has been about $470 dollars.

Radio stations WJAG and KEXL have earned 11 awards for broadcast excellence from the Nebraska Associated Press Broadcast Association. The stations received first, second and third place in the Best Newscast category, as well as first place for Best Sportscast, Feature, Public Affairs and Agricultural entries. A second place award was presented to WJAG/KEXL for an entry in the natural sound category, and third place for entries in general news, agriculture and public affairs. The awards were presented Saturday at the annual meeting of the NAPBA
