The NFL draft is over. Let's take a look at some of the more notable selections on the second day: Central Florida running back Kevin Smith, the nation's leading

rusher in 2007, goes to the Detroit Lions with the first pick of the third round. The Lions traded up two spots with Miami to get him. The Minnesota Vikings used a fifth-round pick on Southern California quarterback John David Booty.

Nebraska cornerback Zack Bowman was the first Husker picked in this year's NFL Draft, taken in Round five by the Chicago Bears. Bowman was out all of 2006 with a knee injury, but bounced back in 2007 to appear in eleven games for the Huskers. He started in four. Bowman was the seventh pick in the fifth round, the 142nd pick overall. Nebraska offensive lineman Carl Nicks was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. Nicks was picked in Round five of the NFL draft yesterday with one of the last picks in the round. Nicks played left tackle for Nebraska, starting eleven games in 2007. The 330-pound Nicks helped the Huskers finish ninth in the country in yards-per-game. Nicks was taken with the 29th pick in the round, 164th overall.

An agent for Chadron State running back Danny Woodhead says the New York Jets have completed a free agent deal for the college game's all-time, all-division leading rusher. Woodhead's agent Chris Gittings says he and the North Platte product felt the Jets would be a good fit. Many NFL teams hesitated on Woodhead in the draft because of his size. Woodhead's 5’7 frame kept him out of the major college ranks as well, but he racked up 7,962 yards in four seasons for Division II Chadron State in western Nebraska. Terms of the deal for the two-time Harlon Hill Trophy winner were not disclosed.
