NORFOLK - Children are returning to the classroom in many schools across the region today. They hit the ground running in the Norfolk Public Schools going all day today -- and attending classes for a full week to kick off the year. At the Norfolk Middle School, Seventh Grade Language Arts Instructor Shirley Burkhardt tells WJAG NEWS after 26-years of teaching, she still looks forward to the first day of class. She says she's just as "excited and hyper" as the students are today because they don't know each other yet. But she says each other's comfort level increases as they get to know one another over the first few weeks. The Norfolk Middle School will be seeing one of its largest enrollments ever this year with just over 600 students.
